Į jį kviečiami folkloro atlikėjai, dainininkai, šokėjai, muzikantai iš viso pasaulio, o ypač iš Lietuvos. Aštuonias dienas Šiaulių apskrityje, taip pat Baltijos pajūryje vyks festivalio koncertai, vakaronės, įvairių šalių folkloro pristatymai, šurmuliuos tautodailininkų ir senųjų amatų mugės.
Šiauliai dažnai yra vadinami Saulės miestu. Įvairiausi kultūriniai renginiai, festivaliai, konkursai yra organizuojami mūsų mieste. Senas tradicijas turi bažnytinės, kantri, chorinės muzikos festivaliai. Šis pirmasis folkloro konkursas-festivalis Saulės žiedas taip pat sieks tapti ryškiu kultūriniu įvykiu ne tik Šiauliuose, Šiaulių apskrityje, bet ir visoje Lietuvoje.

On July 2nd 9th, 2005, Northern Lithuania will welcome musicians, dancers and singers from various countries of the world, who will come to attend the first International Folk Contest-Festival The Flower of the Sun. Festival concerts, evening parties, folklore presentations of different countries will take place and folk art and ancient crafts fairs will be making a tumult in Šiauliai region as well as in the Baltic seaside for eight days.
International Folk Contest-Festival The Flower of the Sun is most probably the first International Folk Contest both in Lithuania, and in the Baltic region. Its organizers expect that the contest-festival will interest and attract folk lovers and folk dance and music groups of numerous countries of the world.
Lithuania is a small country on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Located in the geographical center of Europe, it has a rich history, distinctive culture and language. In 2009, Lithuania will celebrate its 1000 years anniversary. The Lithuanian language, being the oldest Baltic language of Indo-European family, is also among the oldest languages in the world.
Šiauliai, the center of Northern Lithuania, is the fourth largest city of Lithuania with over 120 thousand residents. It is a large industrial as well as scientific and cultural center. There is one of the largest breweries in the Baltic countries Gubernija in Šiauliai. It is the brewery with the history of three hundred years, which makes it the oldest brewery in the Baltic countries. The celebration of this anniversary will coincide with festival events. Šiauliai also has long-lasting traditions in confectionery and tannery industries.
Šiauliai is often referred to as the city of the Sun. Numerous cultural events, festivals and festivities are being organized here. Church music, country music and choral music festivals, festivities and fairs have been held for many years here. This first International Folk Contest-Festival The Flower of the Sun aspires to become a distinct accent of both the city of Šiauliai, its region, and the whole Lithuania.
We hope that all festival participants, guests and hosts will find staying together an excellent opportunity to present them, find friends and fellows, and experience unrepeatable impressions in the welcoming Šiauliai land!
